A friend came to visit recently and observed us shouting "GATE!" every time someone left the gate at the top of the stairs open. It was Tirzah's favorite thing, and she would instantly make a bee-line for that open gate. My friend told me that she taught her kids to go up and down the stairs at 8 or 9 months old because she was just so afraid of them falling. I was a little skeptical, but since Tirzah is SO mobile, decided to give it a try.
Well, she loves the stairs even more now. She can go up them like a pro, and she's getting better and better at going down, but she still needs a little guidance (going up is just automatic). Unfortunately, learning to "climb" the stairs has carried over into climbing everything else, and we have found Tirzah in some really high places! Stairs are still her favorite--they lead to two really neat places in the house: 1) the entryway with VERY cool (and dirty) shoes and 2) the lower level with all the preschool toys. She will forgo eating and sleeping for a chance to play in either spot!
She looks so proud of herself!
