Prom and Graduation

Mitch and I, along with Kathi, got to experience two popular American events for the first time.  Well, it was our first time on the parents' side of it, and of course Kathi's as a student.

We learned of a program in MN called Operation Glass Slipper a few months ago.  Mitch and George (another YFU volunteer) took a group of girls down to the Mall of America to pick out prom dresses.  Kathi made plans to go to prom with friends.  Here are some of the pictures I took:

We asked the Apollo High School counselor to place Kathi as a "Senior" so that she could experience the events that Seniors normally get to experience--including graduation.  Of course, Kathi does not have enough credits to obtain a high school diploma, but she was able to participate in graduation ceremonies and receive a "Certificate of Graduation."  I think it is fitting, because just like other seniors, she is leaving and won't be back to high school here (she has 3 more years in Germany--it's hard to imagine!).
