Sweet Sixteen!

Well we certainly have a lot of spring chickens around here. It's birthday fever with 4 birthdays in a matter of 6 weeks. How did that happen?

We most recently celebrated a momentous milestone--Eden is 16! The long anticipated birthday brings hopes for a full year ahead. Eden currently has a permit and has been practicing driving all winter long. She hopes to earn her driver's license soon (maybe this summer?). She has been babysitting for years, but is actively looking for her first "real" job. This fall she will join Micah at the technical college for her junior year of high school. This summer she is looking forward to participating in Operation St. Cloud, our youth team's local mission assignment. The days in the meantime can't seem to pass fast enough. She's stretching her wings, ready to fly!

 {Cookie treat from Mrs. E, who does such a sweet thing to bless our family on birthdays!}

 {I bought a pretty bouquet of flowers for Eden}

Eden had friends over for games and food on Saturday night. Then she and I made her favorite whopper ice cream cake on Sunday.

At 16 Eden
~is taller than I am
~wears almost the same size clothes as me (well, not 7 weeks after having a baby...but I *will* be her size again some day...lol)
~wears a size 9.5-10 shoe/depending on the brand
~favorite color is blue
~favorite subject is math (brownie points!)
~lets Mercy sleep with her every night
~isn't sure what to do with her long, crazy curly hair
~loves to hang out with friends
~favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice
~loves so many books she can't pick a favorite
~favorite bands/music artists are Jonathan Thulin and Owl City
~doesn't know what she would like to do when she grows up
~loves her tall boots
~wishes she had more {modest} dresses to wear (and I now hope to teach her how to sew)
~occasionally acts like a teenager ::grin::

Happy Birthday, Eden! We love you!

Dramatic Change

After months, no, years, of me haranguing him, Caleb finally decided he wanted short hair for a change. The transformation was dramatic. I'm pleased with the result!

It was at this point that I looked up and nearly gasped at the sight of the young man in the chair. Wow!

Mercy is 2 years old!

This week we celebrated Mercy's 2nd birthday. Poor Mercy has been sick for weeks. Around Monday and Tuesday the last week of February she ran a low-grade fever for a couple days. Obi did too. Then a week later, the first week of March, Tirzah came down with a high fever. I thought it was what Mercy and Obi had, but Mercy soon got a high fever too. They both tested negative for strep and influenza. Mercy and Tirzah ran fevers all week. Eden, Micah, and Obi all caught it. After the fever came a cough. That passed, and on Sunday this week Mercy came down with a fever again. This time she developed croup. On Monday I took her to the doctor and she was given a dose of decadron. That really helped with the cough, but the fever has persisted all week. She has been really crabby and I'm so sad that she felt miserable on her birthday! To top it off I found out that her 2-year-old molars are coming in too.

Here are some pictures and some facts about Mercy...

At 2 years old, Mercy
~weighs about 24 lbs and is 33" tall
~talks quite a bit
~says "nope" and shakes her head up and down (yes) when she means "yes"
~loves to sing and loves to watch shows that have singing
~can name all her siblings (quite a feat!), even baby Genna
~still likes to help me do the laundry (telling me whose clothes are whose)
~names whose towels are whose in the bathroom (really an interesting accomplishment), obviously she's very observant

~has some serious bed hair! I've gotten a little more disciplined at helping Mercy and Tirzah do their hair each day.
~is a copycat (see how well she combs Tirzah's hair below)

~is sweet when she wants to be
 ~has simply adorable, round cheeks
~is a fairly good eater. We made lasagna for her birthday and she cleaned her plate. She also loves to share a bowl of broccoli and cheese with her dad. And of course anything chocolate is good. She loved licking the beater. :)
~loves to dress up for church, so we dressed up for her birthday. She is wearing size 24 mos/2T clothing. She wears size 6 shoes. Oh how she loves shoes!!
~read her birthday card to me...it was unintelligible. :)

~loves videos of animals. Videos of animals with kids music in the backround is a double score.
~refuses to say "two" or hold up two fingers when I ask her how old she is. She is a bit shy, and I think she knows this is a social question.
~is surrounded by crazy siblings who always want to solve her problems (whether she wants them to or not). They love her like crazy.
~wouldn't smile for the camera, so we let her open presents instead.

~likes to stack blocks. She's pretty good at it!

~found that getting sick is a good way to make sure she still gets lots of cuddles after the new baby was born. Haha!
~loves to play with baby dolls. She dresses them in Genna's clothes and buckles them into Genna's car seat. She hasn't put them in Genna's swing yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
~loves to dress herself. She just loves clothes in general. She often empties Genna's dresser trying to fit into the tiny clothes.
~is fast. She loves to run away!
~officially started potty training today. So far we've made it to the potty twice, peed in underwear/on the floor twice, and peed in a pull-up once. I'm super excited about the successes. It means she's figuring out what muscles control all that "stuff."

Mercy sure is a fun addition to our family! I sure hope she's feeling better soon. Happy Birthday big girl!

Genna is 4 weeks/1 month old!

I have zero time tonight to blog, but I've been wanting to do this since Wednesday. I will at least try to get some pictures up.

Genna is doing well. She is eating and growing. She sleeps ok at night. She usually starts off with a 3 or 4-hour stretch. When she wakes up she almost always goes back to sleep right away when we start nursing. She has had a really stuffy nose and that bothers her at night (yellow-green snot, requiring a booger sucker...which she hates). Even though she is burping better in the daytime, it's much harder to get her to burp at night, so by about 5 am she is uncomfortable. I think this will just work itself out as she grows and matures.

I had a little bit of this special yarn left, so I decided to try my hand at making a headband. When Mitch got home from work, I held up the baby and said, "Lookie what I made!" He quickly replied, "I know, I helped." Hahahaha...

Her first month was literally a short one...only 28 instead of 30 or 31! ;)
She is so precious.
That burst blood vessel is finally all cleared up!

I was going through some albums looking for a different picture, and I came across pictures of Zeke. For the moment, Genna bears a strong resemblance to nearly all of Zeke's pictures. I know I have seen glimpses of Malachi and Obi and even Josh in her, but I was so surprised to find these of Zeke. If I didn't know they were Zeke, I'd probably get them mixed up!

Zeke loves holding Genna and he's good at it, too. He was so proud that he put her to sleep. He's taking notes from Caleb. ::grin::

I put up the swing for the first time since I had Obi. Mercy got the hang of it right away...no need to put in batteries--ha!

And I figured out a way to get her weighed on my shipping scale. In case you're wondering, I zeroed the shirt she is wearing, so this is her "down to the diaper" weight. She was wiggling around so it had a hard time locking in her weight, but it was an average of 11 lbs 1 oz. Hurray!!
